The gates of paradise have been restored
Open daily - Museo dell’Opera del Duomo
In 1966 Florence was flooded by the Arno River and to this day the event is remembered as one of the most tragic in Italian history. Among the victims of the flooding was the marvellous Porta del Paradiso of the Baptistery in Florence which had been created by Lorenzo Ghiberti. Today this masterpiece has returned to be always visible to the public at the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo. It is protected by a glass case in order to avoid the formation of humidity that would damage the gold and bronze of the gate's covering.
